Rounds
Round 1 - Submissions due april 28, 2024
HSSP round 1 is defined by a scientific elevator pitch-style presentation. Competitors are required to pre-record a 1-3 minute video of a brief overview of their project and submit it through the submission portal. No presentation (e.g., Google Slides or PowerPoint) is required but highly recommended.
There are no limits to the number of slides, but remember there is a time constraint. It is recommended to include: (1) a title slide, (2) a brief introduction slide, (3) a brief overview of methodology slide, (4) a results slide, and (5) a conclusions slide. Another recommended option is to create a digital poster. For both options, the overview should be concise and not packed with details for ease of judging. Regardless of which style the student chooses, the competitor must include their face in the video. Over a timespan of two weeks, a panel of at least 3 judges will review each submission and score them. The top 20% of competitors in each category will move onto round 2.
Round 2 - may 16, 2024
After the top 20% of competitors in each category move onto round 2, it will be a free-for-all style with no defined category. All finalists will compete against each other live in a video meeting with the same panel of judges. Students should prepare a presentation on their project that is around 5-10 minutes long. After the presentation, there will be a 5-minute maximum Q&A session. Like round 1, a rubric will be used during judging to select the top 10 winners.
